Watch The Meatrix on the Fast Food Nation DVD!
For all of you who didn't get a chance to see Fast Food Nation at the theater and for those who are ready to see it again- Fast Food Nation is now available on DVD. And even more exciting than Fast Food Nation on DVD are The Meatrix movies in the Special Features section of the DVD! It's a perfect opportunity to invite some friends over, serve up some Slow Food (find recipes on Sustainable Table!), learn about the hidden facts behind America's fast food industry and watch The Meatrix movies again.
Super-Sizing Social Action
We at Sustainable Table are serving up super-sized excitement as a partner in the social action campaign for the Fast Food Nation movie! The campaign aims to educate consumers about the true cost of their food and motivate them to take action.
The Eat Well Guide is featured as the core of the campaign's first action, which focuses on showing consumers where to find sustainably-produced foods. Check out the Eat Well Guide campaign page: Step 1: Food for Thought: Get the Eat Well Guide. Don’t forget to share it with your friends and family!
Then there is The Meatrix II ½ (www.moremeatrix.com)- taking the fast out of fast food. The Meatrix action continues as our heroes Moopheus, Leo and Chickity learn firsthand about the problems with meat processing. Produced by Sustainable Table (www.sustainabletable.org) and Free Range Studios (www.freerangestudios.com) for Participant Productions and their Fast Food Nation social action campaign (www.participate.net/fastfoodnation).
The Meatrix Online Forum - The Parlour
The Meatrix has hundreds of thousands of online visitors every year and many have joined our forum (a.k.a. The Parlour). Here, farmers, meat lovers, vegetarians, parents, students, teachers, and many more have come to hash out the issues, post information, and ask questions. The resulting conversations have been exciting and challenging, and exactly what we’d hoped for – a place where the sustainable community can get together online, share tips and ideas, and encourage new members to get sustainable. Logon and look around!
The Meatrix Starbucks Campaign
Thanks to The Meatrix II and to your help, starting January 2007 Starbucks made ten percent more of their milk supply (from 27% to 37%) free of artificial growth hormones. This is a great success!
Because Starbucks promotes itself as a socially responsible company, many people are shocked to find out that Starbucks uses milk from cows injected with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), as this practice harms cows and may pose harm to humans. With more than 6,000 stores nation wide, if Starbucks completely made the switch to rBGH-free milk it would send a strong message to the dairy industry about consumers’ distaste for recombinant bovine growth hormone. In fact, a number of devoted Starbucks customers have told the company that they are not purchasing any more of its coffee drinks until Starbucks buys better milk.
Let’s keep the pressure on Starbucks- if you need a reason, check out the Top 10 Reasons Starbucks should go rBGH free.
iTunes/iPod Downloads Now Available
Check out The Meatrix on iTunes! You can download the movies onto your iPod and share them with your friends. Search at the iTunes store under “The Meatrix” to access all things Meatrix, even the trailer for The Meatrix II: Revolting.
You can also download rBGH-free dairy lists by state to your iPod! Have this important information handy when you need it. Find your state and download a list of brands that produce milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, and ice cream without the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone. rBGH is a genetically engineered hormone that increases milk production in cows, causing unnecessary suffering to cows and unknown repercussions to human health.
Visit Sustainable Table’s Questions to Ask page to download (to your iPod) a series of questions to ask farmers, butchers, and grocers about their beef, diary, pork, eggs, and poultry. With these questions readily available in your iPod, you’ll always know the right questions to ask to find out where your meat and dairy products are coming from!
And a side note… if you would like to download The Meatrix to your computer or have us send you a DVD- contact us! Share the films with your class, your church group, your family, etc….
