Agriculture

Platform Aarde Boer Consument

The Platform Earth Farmer Consumer wants to tighten relations between farmers and consumers. The key elements are an alternative Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and a different Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) at the WTO. The proposed alternative is based on food sovereignty both in North and South. This is a concept developed by Via Campesina. It means among other things a fair price for a fair product on national and EU-markets. This also means the right for each country to produce their own food by their own farmers, in a sustainable way. This can only be achieved with import tariffs, effective supply management and abolishment of trade distorting export and income subsidies.

Nederlandse Melkveehouders Vakbond (Critical Dairy Farmers Union)

A fair income for dairy farmers, both in the short and in the long term. NMV supports the Dutch Dairymen Board, part of the European Milk Board. In this Board dairy farmers come together to be more powerful against the dairy processing industry and to obtain a fair price. They also work together with other organisations for a reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and of the WTO.

Nederlandse Akkerbouw Vakbond (Union of Critical Arable Farmers)

A fair income for farmers, both in the short and in the long term. This is the mission of NAV, an association of farmers for farmers.

Werkgroep Landbouw en Inkomen

This organisation criticises the current social crisis of family farming in the Netherlands and works for agriculture to have a stronger social and economical position in the country.

Centrum voor Landbouw en Milieu (Centre for Agriculture and Environment)

The Centre for Agriculture and Environment (CLM) is committed to building sustainable agriculture and an attractive countryside. Sustainable agriculture produces sound food, maintains the environment, and yields an attractive landscape. New, creative thrusts are necessary for the future of the countryside. CLM turns threats into opportunities.

We are experts in a wide range of areas: environmentally safe farming, animal welfare, food safety, nature conservation and countryside management, water management, energy production and conservation, agritourism and care farming.

Our expertise is applied for research, innovation, policymaking, facilitation, extension and debate. CLM cooperates with farmers, citizens, enterprisers and policymakers in order to bridge controversies between agriculture, countryside and society.

We advocate a practical, inspired approach of innovative projects for the horizon of the future.

Alternative Economies

X minus Y Solidarity Fund

The XminY Solidarity Fund is part of a worldwide, progressive movement that aims at achieving economic and political structural changes from the grassroots approach.

ASEED - Action for Solidarity, Environment, Equality and Diversity

A SEED Europe (Action for Solidarity, Equality, Environment, and Diversity Europe) is a European network linking youth groups and individuals all over Europe. A SEED was established by young people in 1991 in response to the UNCED Earth Summit proceedings in Rio and aimed to forge alliances among young people committed to social and environmental justice.

Action for Solidarity, Equality, Environment and Diversity, (A SEED Europe) believe that people have the potential to change their lives and communities for the better and we aim to support and empower both groups and individuals who are striving to do so. We believe that the roots of the ecological destruction and poverty which is ravaging our planet today can be traced back to the colonial and imperialist past when the populations and natural resources of entire continents were ruthlessly exploited. We see today's profit-obsessed "free" market globalisation which is fuelled by the increasing mobility of capital as a continuation of this phenomenon. Our campaigns are based on the need to act in solidarity with the millions of people in the South whose already precarious livelihoods are being ruined by unfair competition and disastrous privatisation programmes imposed by bodies like the International Financial Institutions and trade agreements in the name of "free" trade and globalisation.

Vóór de Verandering - Alternatieven voor het neo-liberalisme

Resistance against neo-liberal globalisation is growing, and so is the interest in alternatives to the current economic system. In June 1999, the project Vóór de Verandering - Alternatieven voor het Neoliberalisme (Time for Change - Alternatives to Neo-liberalism) was started in the Netherlands. As far as alternatives are concerned, a lot is going on, in the Netherlands as well as in other countries.

This website offers material on solidarity economy. The main characteristic of such an economy is that it is primarily aimed at the realisation of the necessary care for all, with due respect for nature and the environment. It is based on the conviction that co-operation, mutual support, and a responsible way of dealing with the environment, will yield more in terms of sustainability than competition and the boundless pursuit of profit. The search for co-operation and the bonding of strengths, with respect to individuality, is a necessary condition to improve our mutual living conditions.

Two projects are currently going on: ‘Alternative counting of GDP’ and ‘Regionalisation as opposite to (neoliberal) globalisation’.

Environment

Milieudefensie - Friends of the Earth Netherlands

Friends of the Earth the Netherlands. Campaigns: globalisation, climate and energy, food and agriculture, traffic and transport and town and country planning. Important is the “Stop bad meat” campaign in which a change of intensive animal farming is requested. In this campaign the goals are environmental and animal friendly farming, production of European feed (in stead of import of soy beans) and a future for family farmers.

Jongeren Milieu Actief(JMA)- de jongerenorganisatie van Milieudefensie

JMA shows in a creative way how easy it is to do something for the environment. Whether you are busy or have lots of spare time, together with others or alone, in your own town or in national campaigns. JMA offers it all.

Are you between 12 and 28? Do you want to take action against factory farming & climate change and for more sustainable consumption? Go to www.jma.org and sign in for our 2-weekly e-newsletter (in Dutch).

In co-operation with Friends of the Earth Netherlands, JMA started a Citizens Initiative called “Stop Wrong Meat”. 106.975 citizens support our request to the Dutch Parliament for a sustainable meat production without animal suffering, without environmental damage and no more massive imports of soy for animal feed, produced at the expense of nature and people in Latin-America. On www.stopfoutvlees.nl (in Dutch) you can send an e-card with a funny text (Loesje) to a friend or to a member of the Parliament. You also can join in the discussion on our Forum.

Check here for video clips made by young people in the Netherlands. In a creative and surprising way they make you think about factory farming.

Stichting Aarde - Projecten voor Regionalisering en Zelfvoorziening

The goal is also to achieve a healthy balance between regionalisation and globalisation as well as development within environmental borders of the planet.

De Kleine Aarde/The Little Earth - Environmentally-friendly Living

The Little Earth sees a sustainable society as attainable and desirable, and as contribution to the quality of life on our planet, to the health and well-being of humans and the earth.
