Vredeseilanden wants to contribute to viable livelihoods of organised family farmers in South and North. Income from sustainable agriculture is a key element in livelihood improvement. Vredeseilanden contributes to the empowerment of small farmers in order to improve their position in the whole agricultural chain, from production to consumption. In these chains consumer demand and markets are driving forces. Vredeseilanden therefore facilitates marketing initiatives that farmers themselves have identified and defined as being beneficial for securing their livelihoods.

This environmental association focuses primarily on ecological education, based on the appraisal that the degradation of our natural environment is the consequence of the mode of development promoted in Western societies. It is illusionary to think of solving our environmental ills without changing the economic, political and cultural mechanisms that contribute to the environment’s devastation. This is why the association places a particular interest on the consequences our daily actions have on the environment and strives to educate people in order to have them reflect about our lifestyles and adapt them accordingly.
