Sustainable Table
An excellent resource to help consumers understand the difference between sustainable and non-sustainable foods.Includes a simple, yet comprehensive explanation of the issues surrounding factory farming, where to shop to find sustainable food, and a section devoted to sustainable cooking, including recipes,cookbooks and feature articles on sustainable food. Publishes the Eat Well Guide, the online directory of sustainable meat, poultry, dairy and eggs.  Co-producer of The Meatrix films.

American Grassfed Association
AGA represents all species of true grassfed producers. Is working with the USDA to establish a legal definition for grassfed and to implement a labeling program. Producers of all grassfed products, food service industry personnel, health care professionals, members of the media, and consumers are all welcome to join.

American Pastured Poultry Producers Association  
APPPA was established in 1997 to assist all pastured poultry producers in North America. Is a clearinghouse for innovations and refinements to the pastured poultry model and offers the opportunity for people to learn and exchange information about raising poultry on pasture.

Animal Welfare Institute
Nonprofit that works to halt intensive farming practices and replace them with methods which are both humane and practical. Includes humane husbandry standards. Site includes database of information on and about sustainable production systems.

Chefs Collaborative
A national network of more than 1,000 members of the food community who promote sustainable cuisine by celebrating the joys of local, seasonal, and artisanal cooking. Works to promote among chefs and the general public concepts and benefits of good, safe, and wholesome foods, including sustainable food choices,responsible agricultural growing techniques, the impact of food choices on the environment, and the advantages of locally grown and seasonally fresh foods.

Eating Fresh Publications
A publishing and information services company that connects home cooks, professional chefs, restaurateurs, food enthusiasts, and consumers to taste, health, and community benefits of locally grown and raised foods. Through regional cookbooks featuring today's most exciting chefs, online information, newsletters, and events, Eating Fresh takes the rising interest in organic agriculture to its next important step: an emphasis on local agriculture and small, independent farmers.

Food Routes Network
Provides communications tools, technical support, networking and information resources to organizations nationwide that are working to rebuild local, community-based food systems. Is a nonprofit dedicated to reintroducing Americans to their food – the seeds it grows from, the farmers who produce it, and the routes that carry it from the fields to their tables. Coordinates the “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” campaign with groups around the country.

Heritage Foods USA
Brings hard to find heritage foods with superior taste directly to American homes for holidays and special occasions. Heritage Foods USA exists to promote genetic diversity, small family farms, and a fully traceable food supply. The company is committed fostering the link between sustainable land use, small-scale food production and preservation of the foods of past generations for future generations.

Husbandry Institute
Dedicated to creating consumer demand for sustainable, ethical animal farming and its products. HI believes that the single greatest determinant of how animals are raised is the voice of the consumer, or the lack thereof.  Spearheading the Meat Matters: Ask for Change campaign.

Slow Food USA
A non-profit educational organization dedicated to supporting and celebrating the food traditions of North America. Slow Food USA believes that pleasure and quality in everyday life can be achieved by slowing down, respecting the convivial traditions of the table and celebrating the diversity of the earth's bounty. Slow Food USA's goal is to put the carriers of this heritage on center stage and educate its membership on the importance of these principles.

Union of Concerned Scientists Food and Environment Program
Goal is to promote such sustainable agriculture practices while eliminating harmful “factory farming” methods and strengthening government oversight of genetically engineered food.  Check out their latest report “Greener Pastures - Why grass-fed beef and milk contribute to healthy eating.” 

Dairy and Factory Farm Campaigns

GRACE Factory Farm Project
Works to create a sustainable food production system that is healthful and humane, economically viable, and environmentally sound. When invited by regional or grassroots groups, the GFFP helps rural communities, family ranchers and farmers around the country oppose the spread of new factory farms, and close down existing operations that adversely affect the health and well-being of communities.  Contact them for more information.

Family Farm Defenders
Works to create a farmer-controlled, consumer-oriented food and fiber system, based upon democratic institutions that empower farmers in their quest for social and economic justice. FFD has worked to create opportunities for farmers to join together in new cooperative endeavors, form a mutual marketing agency, and forge alliances with consumers through providing high quality food products while returning a fair price to farmers.  Focus includes dairy issues.

FWW challenges the corporate control of our food and water resources by empowering people to take action and by transforming the public consciousness about what we eat and drink. 

Friends of the Earth
Their Safer Food, Safer Farms campaign works on to test and label genetic engineering, protect farmers from pesticide use, and end factory farming.Their factory farm campaign also includes information on mad cow disease.

Sierra Club
Committed to keeping factory farm pollution out of America 's drinking water, lakes and rivers, and eliminating the threats that CAFOs pose to our public health and rural heritage.

Waterkeeper Alliance
Pure Farms, Pure Waters: Waterkeeper's anti-CAFO Campaign protects our nation's water sources through local programs.They have led very successful litigation campaigns against factory farms, one of the biggest and most devastating sources of water pollution.

Center for Rural Affairs
Works to establish strong rural communities, social and economic justice, environmental stewardship, and genuine opportunity for all while engaging people in decisions that affect the quality of their lives and the future of their communities.  Promotes values that reflect the best of Rural America.

Farm Aid Organization
Their goal is to bring together family farmers and citizens to restore family farm-centered agriculture. Family farmers ensure safe, healthful food, protect natural resources, and strengthen local economies.

Land Stewardship Project
A grassroots organization made up of farmers, as well as rural and urban residents, working together to secure a healthful food supply; preserve soil, water and wildlife; support diversified, profitable family-sized farms; organize communities for positive change; hold corporations and government accountable; and create a new sustainable vision for our food and agriculture system.

National Family Farm Coalition
The NFFC provides a voice for grassroots groups on farm, food, trade and rural economic issues to ensure fair prices for family farmers, safe and healthy food, and vibrant, environmentally sound rural communities here and around the world. Represents family farm and rural groups in 30 states.

Center for a Livable Future
Part of Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, the CLF is a global resource to develop and disseminate information and to promote policies for the protection of health, the global environment, and our ability to sustain life for future generations.

Keep Antibiotics Working
Keep Antibiotics Working: The Campaign to End Antibiotic Overuse includes concerned health, consumer, agricultural, environmental, humane and other advocacy groups with more than nine million members, all working to reduce the growing public health threat of antibiotic resistance. Their primary goal is to end the overuse and misuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture.

Sculpt the Future
By using a series of alternative mediums of awareness, Sculpt the Future hopes to inspire a greater level of consciousness, education and understanding of the social and ecological issues that run throughout local communities and around the globe.  100% of all funds raised will go to local community-based projects all around the globe.  Initial projects include a trek from Russia to Canada through the North Pole to raise awareness about climate change and global warming and a project to use creative ways to raise awareness about organic and sustainable farming in New Zealand and the world.
