Wervel works for sustainable agriculture in all its dimensions: economical, ecological, social and cultural. For Wervel four elements are simultaneously important: the farmer, the consumer, the environment and the South. A food team is a group of people from the same neighborhood who collectively buy fresh food from producers who work with sustainable agricultural methods. Food teams opt for organically grown food, for quality: no pesticides, hormones and preservatives and a link with the local farmers so they know where their food comes from. The purchase of healthy food means a support to small scale agriculture in the region and provides farmers in the South the opportunity to develop their own agriculture.
The objective of SOS Faim is to reduce hunger and poverty in the agricultural community. SOS Faim supports farmers organizations and associations of producers to give them the opportunity to improve their living conditions and to ensure their food security. The organization also offers institutions for micro-finance for the disadvantaged, through small loans, to provide them with a generic activity of revenue and to meet their family needs. The organization also works to sensitize the population in the North with the aim to influence politics affecting the populations of the South and the fight against poverty.

This environmental association focuses primarily on ecological education, based on the appraisal that the degradation of our natural environment is the consequence of the mode of development promoted in Western societies. It is illusionary to think of solving our environmental ills without changing the economic, political and cultural mechanisms that contribute to the environment’s devastation. This is why the association places a particular interest on the consequences our daily actions have on the environment and strives to educate people in order to have them reflect about our lifestyles and adapt them accordingly.
